Let's dance

This is like a mobile club, it can be installed in most places, providing there is room, and the venue is licenced for music. We use a van to take a high quality high power sound system (around 1.2 kilowatts), about 1500 records, 7 inch and 12 inch, LPs and CDs. Two record decks (Technics SL1210's - what else?), two CD players, mixer and microphones. We cover such events as birthday parties, weddings, in fact almost anything. It operates as a business, but in fairness does not actually make a profit as we do not work enough.

In the picture above you can see our custom made speakers. Two tuned port bass speakers, and midrange and treble speakers mounted on a pole. A three way crossover splits the sound for amplification. You can see the amplifiers stacked under the table where the tablecloth is lifted.

The Gap Bands' most famous hit has a particular dance, here they are rowing to the beat. There are other famous tunes which do (usually) very well. One such is Gloria Gaynor with I Will Survive. We have an 8.5 minute version of this, which we play to the bitter end, unless the dancers start to flag, usually at about 6 minutes. It's a bit of a standing joke, and we always have a giggle when we play it. Other standards are Wig Wam Bam by Sweet, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham! and Village Peoples' YMCA. The rest of the list is top secret, but may have a few surprises in it.

The crowd are in a party mood while I'm spinning the tunes.

We've recently acquired a twin CD with pitch control, which should allow us to mix CD. It had it's first outing recently, and it was hot. The CD player also got hot, and started to skip tracks. The one we had was the shop demo, which we'll be swapping for a boxed unit, and then we'll put a fan in it.

A foam party, strangely enough.

Sadly, as of Christmas 1996 we no longer do disco's. We got disillusioned with the pop charts driving the punters who liked their clappy clappy tunes, when we wanted to play dance. We may come out of retirement for special occasions, but we've got better things to do!
