NO, people do not sit on top of radio's racing them round a track.
Radio Amateurs, or 'hams' have clubs. These clubs organise rallies, and many commercial stands try to sell, what can only be described as 'odd stuff'. It's vaguely electrically related, but they don't have a problem selling windscreen wipers or wooden toys.
But what is most amusing for me, is all the people who get their little walky talkies specially charged up, and walk around the exhibition halls, talking to others in the hall, waving, and saying "I'm near the cake stand".

As the RSGB usually attend, visiting their events page will list a few of these forthcoming, but do be sure to check with any organiser details before setting out on a long journey as dates can change at short notice.
Date for the next rally is Sunday 18th November 2001 at Horwich.
The next "Red Rose Rally" is being held at Horwich Leisure Centre, Near Bolton, UK on August 18th 1996. The Winter Rally is at the same venue on November 24th 1996. Next is Sunday 2nd March 1997. Forthcoming dates are Sunday 24th August 1997 and Sunday 23rd November 1997. (1998 dates not forthcoming, only listed 22nd November 1998).
Next rally for 1999 is Sunday November 21st 1999, at the Horwich leisure centre in Horwich.
